TV Forecast 2025: Innovative Formats in TV and on Corresponding Platforms

What will making and watching TV be like in 2025? On Tuesday, March 10, we aimed at answering that question in a symposium, held as an extension of the Executive MA program “International Media Innovation Management” (imim).  The event was hosted by fjum_forum for journalism and media in Vienna. An emphasis was put on the coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest which this year will be held in Vienna from May 19th – 23rd.

The sphere of television is being disrupted on several levels. The symposium covered the following levels:

  • New Transmission Technologies: Adaptive Streaming & Inter-Destination Media Synchronisation
Hermann Hellwagner, Head of Research Group Multimedia Communication, Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, and Stefan Lederer, CEO Bitmovin
  • New Habits, New Design: How Shared Screens Change the Way We Watch – and Make – TV
Martin Zimper, Program Director “CAST”, Zürcher Hochschule der Künste
  • New Platforms: Innovative Formats Accompanying TV Events
Miriam Hernánz Rodriguez and César Vallejo de Castro, RTVE Innovation Lab (Radiotelevisión Española, Madrid): Case-study “Laboratorio de innovacíon audiovisual – Eurovision 2015”
  • YouTube: Current and Future Developments
Wolfgang Fasching-Kapfenberger, Communications Manager Google Austria.
